AM's survey explores broadband problems [Edition 3]

AM Nerys Evans is urging the residents of Red Roses to respond toa broadband questionnaire that has been sent to them recently.

In a joint campaign with the local community council, Nerys wantsto gather evidence and establish how many people in the area can'tgain access to an effective fast internet service, commonly known asbroadband.

The research is in order to make a community bid to enablebroadband access.

This follows similar successful campaigns by the local AM inBronwydd, Llanpumsaint, Cynwyl Elfed and Amroth.

Nerys Evans AM said: "Many residents in Red Roses are unable toreceive broadband, and following discussions with the CommunityAssociation regarding the importance of being able to receivebroadband I've sent questionnaires to local residents to establishthe extent of the problem.

"After gathering this evidence we will be able to try and securefunding from the Assembly Government's broadband support scheme --which offers up to Pounds 1,000 per household to enable broadband,as part of Carmarthenshire Community Broadband partnership.

"We've carried out similar campaigns in villages like Bronwydd,Llanpumsaint, Cynwyl Elfed and Amroth and have had successfuloutcomes there, where residents now are connected."

She finished: "In order to make sure that we're successful in RedRoses we need as much evidence as possible from local residents, andwe're urging local residents to return their questionnaires to beincluded in a future bid."

Vice chair of Red Roses Community Council Susan Wilson added: "Weas a community council are actively supporting the campaign to getbroadband to Red Roses and the surrounding areas.

"We need to ensure that as many local people as possible fill inthe forms and return them to Nerys's office."
