Fed: Howard says ex-ministers get no special treatment
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD says guidelines to stop former ministers exploiting theirinsider status are unnecessary because they won't receive special treatment from the governmentin their new roles.
Mr HOWARD has been speaking after a third cabinet minister, JOHN FAHEY, landed a lucrativejob related to his former portfolio, two months after leaving politics due to a lung removedto cancer.
The former finance minister has joined investment bank JP Morgan close on the heelsof former ministers PETER REITH and MICHAEL WOOLDRIDGE taking up jobs related to theirold portfolios of defence and health.
Mr HOWARD's told ABC radio he doesn't think its surprising a company like JP Morganshould have a former premier of New South Wales and a former finance minister in its employment.
And he says he doesn't back calls by the opposition and the Australian Democrats forguidelines to prevent ministers exploiting their insider status after politics.
